LG's Prototype Handsets Highlight Capitol Hill Mobile DTV Showcase
Dingell, Markey and others, including Susan Crawford, the White House special assistant to the president for science, technology and innovation policy, cited the success of the recently completed DTV transition. Crawford, an Internet legal expert, admitted that she had just gotten around to installing her DTV converter box a few days before this event - well after the analog TV shutoff. Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) was among the other members of Congress who spent time visiting the tabletop exhibits.
In remarks to the assembled crowd, ION Chairman Brandon Burgess cited the creation of QUBO, a multi-lingual children's animated program that ION supports financially, as an example of new programming that will round out the digital multicasting program line-up. QUBO shows were transmitted to mobile and conventional DTV receivers as part of the Capitol Hill showcase.
ION has also unveiled plans for the Open Mobile Ventures Corporation (OMVION), a business unit focused on the research and development of portable, mobile and out-of-home transmission technology using over-the-air digital television spectrum.
