LG Ally Launch Gets Boost from ‘Iron Man 2’
LG Electronics MobileComm is augmenting the launch this week of its first Verizon Android-platform mobile phone, the Ally, with a dose of augmented reality, in conjunction with the blockbuster release of "Iron Man 2."
Those who purchase the phone, which incorporates Android Version 2.1, will be able to download the “Iron Man Yourself” Augmented Reality app, which goes live this weekend. The app, to be available at lgim2.com as a PC download as well as a direct-to-phone download, works in tandem with a special, limited-edition Iron Man comic book to be given out to phone purchasers.
The app, when the book is held in front of the webcam, superimposes an Iron Man helmet image on screen over the subject’s face that tracks his or her head movements. When the phone camera is focused on the comic’s front cover, Iron Man’s suit “builds” into a 3D simulation on the phone screen.
