LG Electronics is making it easier to control and monitor your LG appliances through the new ThinQ (formerly SmartThinQ) mobile app. The first of its kind, the ThinQ app allows users to speak conversationally to Google’s voice assistant to gain access to information on an array of LG appliances like washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, air purifiers and more.
A quick check of the app will update homeowners on the status of their LG devices, like the temperature reading on their thermostat or the time remaining on their washing machine cycle. Based on the information they receive, users can verbally request the ThinQ app to make adjustments to their devices, diminishing the need to look down at their smartphone.
“Creating a smart home experience that actually makes our customers’ lives measurably more convenient is what drives us daily,” said Alice Ryu, head of LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company’s smart home business. “With the voice capable mobile app, we have created the ultimate smart home ecosystem that puts convenience first.”
In addition to working as a convenient way to control the home, the ThinQ app also provides users with helpful information and troubleshooting methods for their LG devices. You can ask, “How does the air purifier auto function work?” or “What does the yellow light on the refrigerator mean?” and the ThinQ app will retrieve the relevant information to assist you. Those located in Korea can also receive advice on best practices for their appliances with LG’s living tips on the ThinQ app.
The redesigned ThinQ app will make an initial launch in Korea this month, followed by North America in the fourth quarter, and other key markets of Europe next year. IFA attendees will get a first-hand look at the new technology, as well as an abundance of other LG solutions for the home. The smart home leader will be set up in Hall 18 of the Messe Berlin show from Sept. 6-11. For those not attending IFA 2019, LG is encourages you to keep up with their activities and announcements on social media using #LGIFA2019.
