LG Lights Times Square ‘Good News’ Billboard
LG Electronics is lighting up New York City’s Times Square this holiday season with a five-story-high interactive billboard that will encourage passers-by to text their good news messages for display on the huge digital sign to a fictional “good news ambassador” – a mascot called Gil.
The formal unveiling of the billboard was announced Dec. 14 by Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president of LG’s home entertainment business unit. The event was also marked with a mayoral proclamation declaring the date “Good News Day” and with the donation by LG to Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Fund to Advance New York City, a program that will help to underwrite the city’s School Gardens Initiative.
The billboard is a way for the company to celebrate LG’s “Life’s Good” concept, said company spokesman John Taylor. It’s designed in response to the view of 83 percent of Americans polled in a national survey, who said they felt the country was “suffering from a good news deficit.”
