LG Electronics is expanding its LG Friend ecosystem with the company’s first action camera, which will be available globally and will come with built-in LTE connectivity. The LG Action CAMLTE will launch in the South Korean market in June followed by other key global markets including North America and Europe, LG said.
With the built-in LTE capabilities, users of the LG Action CAM will be able to stream video directly to sites like YouTube Live without their smartphone. In addition, LG explained that, after a software update (scheduled for July), the Action CAMLTE will offer remote access functionality via 3G and LTE, which will enable the device to be used as a CCTV camera for home monitoring or as an automobile dash cam. Images and videos shot with the Action CAMLTE can be downloaded through the user’s paired smartphone.
The LG Action CAMLTE proves itself as a durable device as well. The company explained that, with its IP67 rating, the Action CAMLTE is completely protected fro dust, sand, and can be immersed in up to a meter of water for a half an hour. A completely waterproof case—to be released later this year—will enable the camera to take on more vigorous water activities like surfing and scuba diving, LG said.
