LG, Samsung Team Up on Mobile Digital TV Standard
Industry heavyweights LG and Samsung have joined forces to create a single Mobile Digital TV Standard for North America, the companies announced Wednesday. Samsung and LG hope that the standard, jointly operated by the two companies, is quickly adopted by the Advanced Television Systems Committee, after trials by the Open Mobile Video Coalition.
Approval is expected to come early in 2009, the companies said. Both LG and Samsung, at Interational CES in January, had announced their own separate standard for mobile digital TV.
The alliance was announced in a joint signing ceremony at Seoul Plaza Hotel in Seoul, South Korea, which was attended by top executives of both companies.
