LG Sues Whirlpool
LG Electronics announced late last week that it has filed suit against Whirlpool Corp. for violating a trio of patents for refrigerator/freezers held by LG. The company says Whirlpool committed “willful and deliberate infringement” of the patents, and is seeking trebled damages in the suit, which was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
LG’s suit covers eleven models sold under the Amana, JennAir, KitchenAid, Maytag, and Whirlpool brands.
The suit follows another, filed just a week earlier, by LG against Whirlpool which sought to declare those companies’ patents “invalid and/or unenforceable.” That suit, which counteracted an action earlier filed by Whirlpool with the International Trade Commission, was filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey. LG claims Whirlpool’s earlier action was done in bad faith.
