LG Electronics will start its rollout of its three series of 4K OLED TVs with AI ThinQ, with the full seven-model lineup introduction running through June, it has announced.
The 2019 LG OLED TV lineup features screen sizes ranging from 55- to 77-inch class options consisting of the W9 series (models 77/65W9), E9 (models 65/55E9) and C9 (models 77/65/55C9).
The sets feature LG’s advanced Alpha 9 Gen 2 intelligent processor, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning technology with an extensive database of visual information. AI aids the processor in optimizing images by recognizing source quality and applying the appropriate algorithm. The processor also analyzes ambient room lighting conditions to set optimum screen brightness.
LG OLED TVs also support Apple AirPlay 2 and Apple HomeKit for easy streaming of video and audio content and connectivity to Apple’s smart home products.
The TVs also add Amazon Alexa support this year, complementing the already built-in Google Assistant capability. Other features include the inclusion of the LG Magic Remote, which enables access to both voice assistant platforms and to control-compatible smart home devices using voice. The new sets also provide wider off-axis viewing flexibility and in the cosmetics department, feature ultra-thin bezels.
LG’s flagship models carry Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for dimensional audio. The Alpha 9 Gen 2 also adds AI to audio, enabling the TVs to provide a virtual 5.1 channel up-mix to two-channel source material for an expanded sound field.
LG’s 2019 OLED TVs endowed with AI ThinQ include the 77-, 65- and 55-inch C9 Series models (the 55- and 65-inch models are due out in April at $2,499 and $3,499, respectively; the 77-inch model is shipping in May at $6,999); the E9 Series (Glass TV) OLED 65-inch (April; $4,299) and 55-inch (June; $3,299) models; and the "Wallpaper" W9 Series LG Signature OLED 77- and 65-inch models (both out in June at $12,999 and $6,999, respectively).
