Among a slate of new product announcements expected from LG at CES 2018 is one that details their latest laptop innovation. The LG 2018 line of gram laptops will make their debut at the January consumer tech show in Las Vegas. In a statement, LG said that the latest entrants into the line “push the boundaries of portable computing” thanks to improved mobility and durability. Additionally, the line features upgraded processors and “more versatile functionality,” LG said.
LG said the new line is designed for the mobile worker, promising a product that is both lightweight and long-lasting. The ultra-thin body will boast a 72Wh battery that’s capable of lasting nearly an entire day on a single charge, according to LG. And the company design allows the smaller form factor of the new gram laptops to feature wider screens. The new 14-inch model is the same size as a conventional 13-inch laptop, LG said, but still offers a wider display thanks to a minimized bezel.
“We’re very proud to introduce the new gram PCs, which have been designed in direct response to those wishing to get an all-round, high performance laptop with maximum portability,” Chang Ik-hwan, head of LG’s IT business division, said in a statement. “LG offer more powerful laptops that deliver greater work efficiency and durability while continuing the product’s original identity of offering lightest laptop in its category. The 2018 gram series can tick all the boxes for users who want versatile and lightweight laptops with faster processing capabilities.”
Beyond portability, LG said the updated line will provide additional durability, making it an ideal travel companion. The new models were durable enough to pass the U.S. military MIL-STD 810G durability tests for resistance to impact, pressure, and temperature. The improved durability comes courtesy of the Nano Carbon Magnesium fill metal alloy body that LG developed for the product.
The new gram laptops will be equipped with Intel’s 8th Gen Core i7 and i5 processors. Other features include optional upgrades like a touch screen, fingerprint reader, and Thunderbolt 3—which allows for compatibility with Mac products, supports faster data transfers, and enables seamless transmission of 4L/5K content to exterior displays.
LG said the new gram laptops will be available in the U.S. starting next month with other markets to follow.
