Linear Brands Unveil CAT-5 Audio Distribution Platform
The Linear Home Technology Group, which includes SpeakerCraft, Niles Audio, ELAN, ATON and Xantech, unveiled DIGI-5, a low-cost audio distribution technology that will serve as a common platform for easier integration of products released by Linear’s brands. The company also plans to make the platform available to other companies that meet certain licensing requirements.
Announced Wednesday at Fall CEDIA Expo 2007 in Denver, the protocol is designed to transmit digital music over CAT-5 wiring. It is the first collaborative development project to emerge from the various companies under the Linear umbrella.
The announcement was made ahead of a series of SpeakerCraft product introductions by company president Jeremy Burkhardt, who was joined at the rollout by ELAN president Bob Farinelli, also the team leader for DIGI-5’s development, and Frank Sterns, president of Niles.
