It may be possible for overseas companies to take some advantage of CEPA. Service companies who partner with, invest in or buy into a CEPA-qualified firm in Hong Kong can benefit from the free trade. Manufacturers or traders can also, if they partner with or outsource to a Hong Kong manufacturer. This will position the city to have greater access to China, a country that is being viewed as a burgeoning hot spot for consumer electronics sales as it begins to become more economically and socially modernized.
Brand Names Grow Stronger
At the electronic fair itself it is not hard to see the plethora of electronics that the region has to offer. Much of it can be classified as commodity electronics (radios, CD players and light appliances), while the higher-end items being displayed are from OEMs in search of brand partners. This is the common theme of the fair. But this year a new section, dubbed the "Hall of Fame," was added and featured finished brand products from several companies that sell to U.S. channels, including Apex, Nakamichi and Akai. These names were new to the Fair and may represent a change to the how it is viewed by the region if it can continue to attract stronger companies.
