Accessorize: Looking Toward the Future
Evolution of Audio
Audiophiles are rejoicing over the recent rise in consumer interest of high-end audio products. There has been intensified growth from headphones in particular, which translates to increased revenues for accessories manufacturers and retailers. Looking ahead, it’s important not to simply sit back and ride the momentum of current successes, but also to continue to innovate based on consumer expectations.
Consumers want their products to be smarter, and to do more. With headphones, this has a lot to do with lifestyle. Manufacturers should aim to develop products that not only meet consumers’ needs, but also enhance the overall audio experience. However, don’t sacrifice design when upgrading products. To stand out in the audio market, it’s necessary to create something that sounds good, provides increased functionality and looks visually appealing.
Wireless Technology in Africa and Technology in Education
In emerging countries (in places like Africa) and in education, we are seeing mobile apps driving fundamental change. Africa is currently experiencing a mobile revolution as more people gain access to cellphones. This is creating a surge in specialized apps for mobile payments, mobile health and education across the continent.
Meanwhile, in the U.S. education system, apps and new technologies are making learning exciting and interactive. By including technology in the classroom, there’s potential to create a customizable learning program that improves learning and efficiency.
Although entering the African and education markets may not be the right fit for all app developers, tapping these new markets could be rewarding on a financial and philanthropic basis. At the very least, educate yourself about these important worldwide trends, and examine whether it’s possible for your company to get involved abroad, or in bringing these technologies stateside.
As we look to the future, it’s clear there are many opportunities for accessories in a wide range of markets. At the 2013 International CES, we will see innovative companies and groundbreaking products already entering these emerging markets. Start thinking about how your CE accessories can fit into the mix, so you don’t get left in the past. DS
