Known as the largest distributor of corporate IT products in the world, Ingram Micro, Santa Ana, Calif., bought AVAD, which focuses on the home custom installation market, about two years ago. The DBL purchase helps round out Ingram Micro’s offerings by giving it greater traction and reach into the mainstream CE and accessories markets.
“This is part of our overall growth strategy; the CE market has always looked promising to Ingram Micro,” Yaftali said. “There has been a lot of pressure on flat panels and such. But what’s attractive about DBL is it carries a variety of products that are not concentrated in one area. CE accessories is a very profitable space and fits in very well with our strategy.”
Having deep coverage in the IT, custom installation and mainstream consumer electronics markets is especially important for distributors and dealers, given how quickly technology and consumer electronics are converging, Yaftali and Lorsch said.
