A convergence of challenges faces every retailer, manufacturer and consumer touched by the phenomenon known as the Internet of Things (IoT). A recently held webinar, entitled “Selling the Internet of Things: Why are Retail Solutions A Challenge?” moderated by CTPG Media Content Editor Rob Stott, sponsored by MarketSource, and presented by MarketSource’s Practice Leader of Retail Services, Keith Noval, addressed this hot topic and its broader implications for the consumer technology retail sector, its suppliers and its various customer bases.
A heightened pace of social media mentions about IoT – 1.4 million in Twitter, blogs, and in the news – within a six-month period MarketSource studied indicates that rapid growth is all but certain for the IoT category, said Noval. And what’s more, he said, “it’s been a highly positive conversation. Consumers are getting excited on how the technology will impact their lives and benefit their lifestyles.”
The consumer segment chatting about IoT the most is the 21-to-35-year-old group, which accounts for two of every three blog mentions and is what Noval termed a “highly attractive” demographic populated with many early tech adopters.
