Industry Actions: Manufacturers Must Pay for 3-D Ramp Up
Whether you're walking the exhibit hall at the National Association of Broadcasters Show or IBC, or just strolling down Main Street in any American city, you can see the signs: 3-D TV is in our future, and it's coming fast.
With JP Morgan now ready to fund a $525 million transformation of up to 15,000 digital cinema installations over the next five years and with the next generation of Blu-ray discs ready to carry 3-D into the home, clearly the movie business is catching 3-D fever. 3-D flat-screens are expected to be the buzz at the 2010 International CES. Sony is rolling out 3-D TVs and other products. And Panasonic is on the road with its mega 3-D screen. In sports, ESPN is pursuing experimental events, along with special broadcasts by Fox, NFL Network, B Sky and others around the world.
