The Design Home is based on a traditional design with faux stone siding used to mimic the old stone farmhouses of the local area. Andersen Windows outfitted the windows and Therma-Tru doors provide the entrances to the house. (Both companies are sponsors.) Even landscaping was part of the design, provided by Realty Landscaping Corporation.
The inside of the home pretty well reflects the contemporary ideal of suburban luxury. Classic furniture design gives the impression of a home filled with antiques and there are more rooms than most Americans are accustomed to, including a wine cellar and a library. The kitchen is covered in tile and granite countertops and outfitted with high end-appliances, including a refrigerator with a facade that blends in with the rest of the cabinetry.
Hifi House's role was to work as closely with the designers as possible. "We do not design the space," explains Robbins. "But we work closely with the designer throughout the process, to ensure that the audio and video equipment complement the design. The builders, along with our engineering and design consultants, change with each Design Home. In the current Thompson Homes house, Harry Blanchard, one of our top designers and Rich Williams, our chief engineer worked with the builder from the initial conception stage to the floor plan layout, and on through to completion."
