Matsushita to Bundle Plasmas, Blu-ray Players
Matsushita, the parent company of Panasonic, next week will begin offering bundles of its plasma HDTV products with Blu-ray players, the Wall Street Journal reported.
According to the Web site TVPredictions.com, the promotion, at Best Buy, will include what amounts to a free Panasonic Blu-ray Disc player with the purchase of certain Panasonic Plasma sets. The offer only applies to a pair of Panasonic 1080p models. Customers are actually offered $499 off the price of the TV when they buy the Blu-ray player, which has a listed price of $499.
The Journal, which released the story on its Dow Jones Newswires, received the information from Masayuki Kozuka, the company’s general manager in charge of storage-device strategy. Pricing specifics, and where the deal will be offered, were not disclosed by Kozuka, who added that the goal was to raise Panasonic’s market share for Blu-ray.
