Matsushita, Leica Team Develop Digital Still Cameras
By Tatyana Sinoukov
Solms, Germany-based Leica Camera and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. of Osaka, Japan, agreed to collaborate on developing and marketing digital still cameras under the Panasonic and Leica brand names. According to the agreement, the new, jointly developed models will be introduced in the Autumn of 2001. Certain cameras marketed by Panasonic will incorporate optical lens units from Leica.
This collaboration isn't the first one between Panasonic and Leica. In August 2000, Panasonic introduced the DV-format camcorder, model NV-MX3000, which featured a Leica Dicomar lens. The new Panasonic-branded digital still camera, Matsushita said, will incorporate a SD memory card slot.
