MERA Opposes NTSB Recommendation
The Mobile Electronics Retailers' Association (MERA) has come out against the recent recommendation by the National Transportation and Safety Bureau (NTSB) that states ban all use of mobile phones in cars.
MERA supports a "Pocket or Dock It" approach to in-car phone use, in which drivers are encouraged to either not use phones while driving or dock them to Bluetooth and other such devices. The organization has also advocated proper enforcement of current distracted and careless driving laws, rather than enactment of new ones.
“Pocket or Dock-It makes every effort to keep the phone out of the drivers hands while allowing innovative technologies (i.e. Bluetooth, OEM Integration devices, etc.) to solve the distraction issue," Chris Cook, MERA's president, said.
