Mexens Technology announced Monday the availability of a system that can perform the functions of a GPS locator chip without the actual chip. The Navizon Web API figures out where a customer is located based not on a physical item hardwired into a laptop or cell phone, but based on triangulating signals from nearby Wi-Fi access hubs. Businesses tied into the Navizon system can then use this information to tell customers where their closest store is located while customers can, obviously, just figure out where they are. The software also provides potential fraud prevention applications. Cyril Houri, founder of Mexens Technology, explains that the new applications - one for the Web, one for mobile devices - will “expand Mexens Technology’s already robust Navizon Network and create unique opportunities for consumers and businesses to use the technology in innovative ways.”
