The growth of interest in making videos to go online for sites like YouTube.com and other video sharing sites, as well as podcasting, is making the demand for related accessories rise. And it could mean new life for a category some have not thought about -- microphones.
Based on recent numbers from Global Sources, the manufacturing of microphones has seen an increase particularly in wireless models. Writes Mark Saunderson, president of Global Sources, “2006 has seen an increase in the supply of wireless microphones, as these offer higher profit margins. In 2005, wireless microphones and microphone systems accounted for half of the industry’s output in units. Consequently, makers of high-end microphones have channeled their resources to developing wireless capabilities such as RF and phase-lock loop (PLL) technology. Makers in Greater China also focus their R&D on enhancing external designs and improving audio output. A few suppliers cited Mylar microphones for mobile phones and portable media devices as one of the most promising product lines.”
