Microsoft Buys Sidekick Maker
The world’s largest software company has now taken control of Paris Hilton’s favorite cell phone, now that Microsoft has purchased Danger, the California-based company that manufactured the popular early smartphone known as the Sidekick. The San Jose Mercury News reported that Microsoft made the deal to take an even bigger step into the mobile arena, and also to embrace hardware as well as software, much the way Apple has. The move is also seen as a strike against Google’s upcoming mobile plans.
Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal came shortly after Danger had declared plans to become a public company.
