Microsoft May Be Eyeing BlackBerry Maker
The company behind the BlackBerry saw its stock rise to a record level on Thursday based on speculation that it may be acquired by Microsoft, Reuters reported. Research in Motion’s stock jumped 2.7 percent on the NASDAQ,
One analyst speculated that the resign for the possible takeover may be Microsoft’s desire to compete with a potential Google-branded smart phone. The rumors, however, have crept up before, never to any avail.
Having released the hugely successful BlackBerry in 1999, controlling interest in the Canadian firm Research in Motion is still held by founders James Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis.
