Microsoft Now Says It’s Not in Blu-ray/Xbox Talks
Despite various hints dropped in recent weeks that Microsoft was about to embrace the Blu-ray Disc format, the software giant now says they are “not in talks” to add Blu-ray to the Xbox 360 gaming console. Reuters reported last week that a Microsoft executive had said “Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience,”
Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer, had said earlier last week that Microsoft would provide “device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like,” but did not confirm a Blu-ray-capable version of the Xbox.
In the same interview, Xbox product manager Aaron Greenberg told Reuters that Xbox was likely outsold by the PlayStation 3 in February, but blamed this on shortages.
