Microsoft Vista Begins
After five years and six billion dollars, Windows Vista has been unleashed on the world. Aggregate reviews suggest that it is a significant improvement over Windows XP, but breaks no new ground in the big picture of home computing. Retailing between $199 and $399 depending upon which version customers choose, the product became available at midnight, January 30 after a series of promotional events on January 29, which included a keynote address by Bill Gates at Times Square and an appearance by Gates on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.
Some analysts predict that the cost of Windows Vista will drive up the costs of PCs on which it is pre-installled, an effect that some believe may actually drive consumers toward Macs.
