Congress keeps trying to use a legislative broom to sweep back the rising tide of information and experience generated by technology. And, as one might expect, it's getting messy.
No more will we wake up at 2 a.m. and find little Johnny watching Natural Born Killers on HBO. The V-chip, due in all new TVs, 13-inches and up, by January 1, 2000, will save us all. Hallelujah.
Meanwhile, the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association, a V-chip supporter, is on the Capitol Hill warpath, fighting an intellectual property copyright bill, which at press time was pending in U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee.
