Misu Technologies’ M1 Senior Phone, showcased at the recent Hong Kong Electronics Fair in the Startups Zone, offers a roster of simplified and easily accessible features for elderly users for whom mastering the nuances of an ordinary smartphone would be problematic.
The flip-phone features just a few key ultra-large buttons to keep confusion to a minimum, and its settings are all manageable through an app that is resident on a family member’s smartphone. The app also allows the family member to change the settings on the senior’s phone remotely – providing a way for the smartphone owner to remotely provide a quick fix for when a setting is accidentally changed by the senior.
Its Easy Talk feature is an instant voice messaging system whereby the senior can press a microphone icon on the screen and leave a 15-second message for a family member. Similarly, the relative can get in touch with the senior by pressing the mic icon on their smartphone.
It has an SOS button and Wi-Fi and GPS positioning functionality, so that relatives can keep close tabs on the phone owner, both indoors and outdoors, respectively. Also included is a pedometer that can record steps and be monitored by family members. Other features include Remote Reminder, whereby a family member can remind a senior about medication and doctor’s appointments, and a Type C port connection that is direction-agnostic.
