Shouldering the Weight to Carry Apple
What does it take to open an Apple store within a store if you’re not a mega-retailer like a Target or a Walmart?
For MODIA, a seven-store CE retailer and custom installer based in Texas, adding Apple stores-within-stores (absent of iPhones) in April was just the next step in a 25-year history populated with pro-active business refreshes. The year-long negotiation that led to the agreement with Apple entailed convincing the company that MODIA would be a great retail partner because of the way brothers Mihir and Prashant Mody, the company’s principals, do business.
MODIA’s Dallas store in the moneyed Highland Park area—the seventh most affluent neighborhood in America—is noteworthy for being within a 10-mile radius of the homes of President George W. Bush, The Eagles’ Don Henley, and Internet mogul and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. But what’s more noteworthy is that it's also located less than a thousand feet from one of Apple’s own stores.
