Monitor Audio to Field 2nd-Gen MASS Surround System
Monitor Audio’s second-generation MASS 5.1-channel surround sound system is slated to begin delivery to retailers in mid-to-late May; it features refined, smaller cabinets and a choice of cloth covers.
It is comprised of five satellite speakers and a subwoofer whose designs are suited to the styling of modern rooms, says the company. The sats are two-way, sealed cabinets which are tuned to integrate with the system’s dedicated subwoofer. Their compact design is optimized for performance in off-axis positions, says Monitor. The subwoofer, a compact, sealed enclosure design with internal bracing, has a built-in 120-watt Class D amplifier and digital signal processing, along with advanced limiters that Monitor said are designed to for precise sub output control.
The system is said to be simple to set up, and to be ideal for home cinemas and for gamers who want to experience immersive audio.
The speakers are available in Midnight (black-blue) and Mist (white-grey); their cloth covers have been developed to be acoustically transparent and to give the feel of a luxury piece of soft furnishing, says the company. Additionally, the satellite speakers feature a cloth-wrapped rear cover to hide cables and connections for a clean silhouette in the home.
Bespoke stands are available to help in the prime positioning of the speakers. The MASS stands were designed to enhance the speakers’ contemporary aesthetic and to enable the satellite speakers to perform at an optimal height. They feature a precision cut base and pole and an integrated bracket to allow simple speaker attachment, as well as a channel to discreetly hide the speaker cable.
