Getting the Connection
As for WEEE, many makers believe compliance issues may lengthen time to market of new products, as the directive requires a more comprehensive selection of raw materials. Qualified raw materials and components should not only be acceptable to WEEE, but also be of high quality so as not to compromise product integrity.
Since complying with the directives entails additional costs, product prices may increase slightly in the coming months. This is also due to the rise in production overheads and the cost of key raw materials such as copper. Electroplating cost will also increase by up to 10 percent as the cost of metal skyrockets.
