During a whirlwind of trade show activities, dealer meetings, education, and networking at the PrimeTime convention last month, Nationwide Marketing Group (NMG) took a step back from the chaos to perform an act of good.
In delivering on their commitment to give back, Nationwide and No Child Hungry organized a meal packing effort to benefit hungry children in the United States and abroad. Dealers, vendors and members of the NMG team alike came together at the Las Vegas show to create over 180,000 meals for children in need. Hundreds of attendees worked to crush a goal of 60,000 meals in 60 minutes. The total for the time frame ended up being 87,000 packed meals for hungry kids.
Last year, a few NMG leaders, including NMG President Tom Hickman, hand-delivered the packaged meals to their final destination in Haiti. Final totals for this year's meal packing event were close on the heels of those 2018 numbers.
No Child Hungry also identified several orphanages in need of new beds, and presented the information to the three bedding manufacturers. Regardless of their status as bedding dealers, NMG Members were able to purchase a twin-size mattress at a discounted rate to donate to the group’s efforts.
“Through our partnership with No Child Hungry, we quickly saw that while the need for food is great, the need for mattresses is also paramount,” explained Nationwide’s Jeff Rose, a leader on the furniture and bedding team, “The orphanages in the No Child Hungry network have many needs, and we knew that with our partners at Tempur Sealy, Serta Simmons and Restonic, we could make a difference. We just didn’t realize how big of a difference this one show would make.”
Through generous donations, over 1,100 mattresses will be delivered to the No Child Hungry distribution center in the coming months, and will be placed in orphanages across the United States and Haiti throughout the year.
“This network is a powerful force, and is filled with some of the most giving dealers in the business,” said NMG President Tom Hickman, “The collective effort to give back just keeps growing, and the difference it’s making is humbling. Of the meals packed at PrimeTime, half were distributed immediately in our host city, and the other half will make their way with No Child Hungry to the areas where the need is greatest. The mattresses are a next step, and to see the generosity of our bedding partners and all the members who donated beds again showed why independent dealers are not only the backbone of the American economy, but the American community as well.”
