NBC/Fox YouTube Rival Coming in September
The new online and multimedia video venture formed by NBC Universal and News Corp. (owner of the Fox network) finally has an arrival date: this September, Reuters reported Friday.
Announced in March to challenge the dominance of the online-video sector by Google-owned YouTube, the new online venture will feature content from two of the five major broadcast TV networks, as well as their respective film libraries. Those involved have said the content will be available on multiple devices, including, eventually cell phones.
The venture, which remains unnamed, added Comcast as a content and distribution partner in April, and also hired the Seattle-based broadband publishing firm thePlatform to handle back-end technology.
