Netflix is considering offering a mail-free subscription, in which users would obtain movies solely through online streaming. A company spokesman confirmed to CNBC that the company's CEO, Reed Hastings, has mentioned the business model as a possibility.
Previous media reports had stated that the DVD rental company could offer such a service for $9.99 a month. The new model would cut out shipping costs, but would require millions of dollars in infrastructure improvements.
Netflix has reached deals with several hardware manufacturers, including Roku, Samsung, LG and Microsoft, to enable streaming capability.
