Netflix Planning More CE Partnerships
Netflix is nearing agreements with several consumer electronics providers, following its agreement earlier this year with LG to make a set-top box. According to Reuters, the video-rental-by-mail company will soon announce three partnerships, all similar to the LG deal, and all having to do with streaming movies directly to set-top boxes.
Netflix’s CEO, Reed Hastings, made the announcement on a call with analysts Tuesday. He did not name the companies, but did say that three of the four companies are “major companies” while the fourth is smaller. The deals will involve the devices “[enabling] the Netflix functionality,” with the first product likely to emerge by the end of this year.
