New Age Electronics, a consumer electronics and gaming products distributor under the SYNNEX Corporation umbrella, will begin offering to U.S. retailers connected home products manufactured by Nest, which currently (and arguably) is the best-known smart home manufacturer around town. The agreement between New Age Electronics and Nest includes the third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, the Nest Protect smoke and CO alarm, and the Nest Cam security camera. All of the products work together through the Nest app to allow the user to control their smart home products from the palm of their hand.
Nest joins a deep roster of connected home products at New Age Electronics, several of which are brands that are compatible with the Works with Next platform. In its statement, New Age Electronics cited Consumer Technology Association data that shows just how ready this space is to boom. According to CTA, smart home tech will generation $1.2 billion in revenue in 2016 with 8.9 million units sold from product categories including smart thermostats, smart smoke and CO2 detectors, and IP/WiFi cameras.
"We are excited to expand our connected home offering with Nest, one of the industry's pioneers in making the smart home a reality," Fred Towns, President, New Age Electronics, said in the statement. "Nest products deliver everything today's consumer is looking for—they are innovative, easy to install and use, and well-designed. Most importantly, they improve the lives of everyone they serve by providing them with a safer, more comfortable and efficient home.”
