New Age Electronics Extends Agreement with ASUS, Enters Unlocked Smartphone Market
New Age Electronics, a consumer electronics and gaming products and services distributor, has expanded its relationship with ASUS to distribute the company’s ZenFone 2 smartphone and related accessories in the U.S. retail channel. New Age Electronics, a division of SYNNEX Corporation, is currently the only U.S. distributor offering both the ZenFone 2 16GB and 64GB models, which are compatible with all GSM networks, giving customers the ability to choose their own carrier.
New Age Electronics said the agreement is a boon for dealers and retailers, providing them with new options in the rapidly growing unlocked smartphone category. According to a recent Strategy Analytics report, unlocked smartphone shipments in the U.S. grew 140 percent to reach a record high of 14.6 million units in 2015, and sales are expected to grow another 58 percent to 23 million this year.
"As the consumer electronics market continues to change and retailers look to adjust their strategies, unlocked smartphones bring new opportunities for revenue and long-term growth," Fred Towns, President, New Age Electronics, said in a statement. "The ASUS ZenFone 2 is an ideal product for a wide range of consumers - in addition to the product not being tied to a particular network, it is known for delivering a smarter and simpler mobile experience for users that's supported by all-around powerful performance."
