New Company to Offer Movies on Flash Memory Cards
Add another competitor to the movie distribution competition of the future.
According to CNET, an Irish company called PortoMedia has introduced a movie distribution model that entails downloading movies onto a flash memory card. The movies will be downloaded from kiosks set up at malls and in other other public places, and can either be rented or purchased with the use of a PIN number.
The company said they conducted a trial run in Ireland last year and will launch a similar trial in four American cities this spring, although they did not reveal which for. PortoMedia’s CEO also told CNET that he has lined up support from “major studios,” though he did not say which ones or how many.
