New iPad's Opening Weekend: Three Million Sold
Apple said Monday that it sold three million of the third-generation iPad, worldwide, in its first three days.
“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement. “Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can't wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”
CEO Tim Cook, speaking earlier int he day during the conference call when Apple announced its dividend and stock buy-back plans, had not specified a number of units sold in the product's first three days.
