New Leica SL-System Prime Lens Announced
Leica Camera has rolled out the latest addition to its portfolio of high-performance prime lenses for the Leica SL-System: the APO-Summicron-SL 35 mm f/2 ASPH.
It will become available in mid-April at $4,595 and uses the L-Mount standard developed by Leica.
The company says it has introduced some new technologies with innovative production methods in the manufacture of this lens.
Leica says special attention has been paid to the prevention of stray light and reflections. Together with an optimization of the optical and mechanical design, high-quality coatings have been applied to each lens surface to keep reflections to a minimum. Leica cites high-level image output, corner to corner, as a feature, particularly at its maximum aperture of f/2. It is anti-dust- and anti-moisture-sealed and has a hydrophobic Aquadura coating on the exterior lens surfaces, making it especially applicable in extreme weather conditions. By design, the Leica SL-System and its lenses instil confidence in the user that they will
The autofocus drive of this new 35 mm employs robust stepping motors with a DSD (Dual Syncro Drive), which completely travels the entire focus range in just 250 milliseconds.
The L-Mount standard used on the lens enables it to be fully compatible with other L-Mount cameras from the Leica portfolio as well as cameras manufactured by partners of the L-Mount Alliance.
