Google Forges Chrome, Could Add Shine To Retail Sales
Google's announcement of Chrome and its work with multiple PC manufactures that are designing netboooks based on the OS is good news for retailers.
In today's environment, retailers need something that will drive incremental revenue, generate additional profits and act as a sales floor differentiator. It also helps if the solution gives retailers a good story to tell. Chrome-based netbooks could be that story.
The Chrome OS is being designed as fast and light, allowing consumers to start up their netbooks and other mobile device and log onto the Web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal, with most of the heavy lifting taking place on the Web, according to a post on the Google Blog by Sundar Pichai, vice president product management, and Linus Upson, engineering director.
