New Sirius Ad Rampages Through Music History
As it awaits word on whether its merger with XM will gain federal government approval, Sirius Satellite Radio launched a clever new television campaign over the Thanksgiving weekend in which it positioned its product as both superior and more advanced than virtually every other measure of music delivery ever devised.
In the ad, various hardware and software products of the past and future are seen falling onto each other like dominoes: first eight-track tapes, then computer discs, then CDs and record players. followed by early-’90s-era boomboxes, which collapse on top of a vintage juke box. This triggers a Rube Goldberg-like contraption which knocks over hundreds of iPods, which leave only a portable Sirius receiver standing. The narrator then intones “Everything Else Just Falls Short.”
The ad debuted during the weekend and was in heavy rotation during both college and professional football. It can be viewed on YouTube here.
