New Year Reflections
Overall, I’d say business got smarter this year. In 2007, the major manufacturers stepped back and re-evaluated their approach to market so that many shifted their focus away from high volume/low market SKUs to high margin/limited distribution models.
Manufacturers and dealers re-thought their approach to design (aesthetics and ease-of-use) as well as lifestyle integration. Let’s face it. CE products are not only competing against other CE products, they’re competing against every other consumer product on the market. So many in the industry made sure their products not only worked as stated, but also looked cool and integrated easily into consumers’ lives.
The cell phone market is the place where that emphasis is most obvious, and Apple’s iPhone is the biggest winner there, but the trend really started with Motorola’s RAZR.
