Casio has introduced a wristwatch, the PC Cross HBX-100J (¥28,000), that can up- and download data such as a telephone book and schedule information between a PC and the watch using an infrared (IrDA) connection. The watch uses a custom 4bit CPU and 24KB data memory.
Sanyo has introduced a GPS portable navigation unit, "Gorilla" NV-P6 (¥185,000), with a built-in 5.8-inch wide TFT color LCD monitor. The 16 x 9 widescreen TFT monitor has a 280,800 pixel resolution that can display a precise map in detail as well as perform as a TV monitor. It also can show two separate maps in scale on the display at the same time.
Toshiba has introduced a digital memory recorder, the Voice Bar, DMR-120Z (¥25,000), that can record up to an industry longest 120 minutes using a new, low power 64Mbit flash memory. The Voice Bar is good for monaural recording with a built-in condenser microphone. Using 2 AAA batteries it works for 10 hours at playback mode using an in-ear type headphone or five hours by built-in mini-speaker.
