¥ PC Sales Slump In Shopping Districts
PC sales in Japan's three leading electronic shopping districts in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka dropped 26.0 percent in value to ¥150 billion yen and 27.2 percent in volume to 619,600 units in fiscal 1997, according to the Multimedia Research Institute (MRI). PC sales in Tokyo's Akihabara, Nagoya's Osu and Osaka's Nipponbashi areas accounted for 8.9 percent of the total domestic sales which the company has reported reached 6,963,000 units, down from 11.5 percent in fiscal 1996. MRI predicts that PC sales in the three districts will expand 11 percent to 690,000 units in fiscal 1998.
