Smartphone Penetration Reaches 25 Percent
The percentage of mobile phone owners who have smartphones has reached 25 percent- and that number is expected to exceed 50 percent by the end of next year. That's according to statistics released Tuesday by the Nielsen Co.
Nielsen found that the smartphone penetration percentage has jumped from 16 percent in the second quarter of 2009 to 25 percent currently, and is expected to comprise more than half of mobile subscribers by the end of 2011.
Meanwhile, Nielsen found that a greater percentage of consumers have acquired Android phones than iPhones in the past six months, by 27 to 23 percent.
