Apple Takes Smartphone Lead
Apple's iPhone has overtaken Research in Motion's BlackBerry in smartphone market share, while Android has improved its share considerably.
According to figures released Tuesday by the Nielsen Co., Apple's market share is 27.9 percent, followed by BlackBerry with 27.4 percent and Android with 22.7. Microsoft's Windows Mobile is fourth with 14 percent, with Nokia, Linux and Palm all pulling less than 5 percent.
On the question of "next desired smartphone operating system" for likely upgraders, Apple leads with 30 percent, followed by Android with 28 percent, BlackBerry with 13 and Windows Mobile with 6 percent.
