Android is the #1 mobile operating system among those who have purchased a smartphone in the past six months, according to data released Tuesday by the Nielsen Co.
The Android OS was in 32 percent of smartphones purchased in the six months ending in August, up from 28 percent in July and just 14 percent in January. In the last six months, Research in Motion's BlackBerry took 26 percent while Apple's iPhone OS earned a 25 percent share.
In terms of market share among those currently owning smartphones, regardless of when they bought them, BlackBerry still has the #1 spot with 31 percent, following by iPhone with 28 percent and Android with 19. Those numbers went 36/29/8 in January of this year.
