Nikon Unveils New NIKKOR Lens for Z Mount System
Nikon has announced the new NIKKOR Z 24-70MM f/2.8 S lens for the Z Mount System. It is being billed by Nikon as the ideal all-around zoom lens for all types of content creators due to its zoom range, fast aperture, edge-to-edge sharpness and compact and lightweight design.
The lens takes advantage of the wider, brighter and faster Z mount as well as the 5-axis VR of the Z system. It is engineered with Nikon’s latest optical technologies, including its new ARNEO coating, used in conjunction with Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat to minimize flare and ghosting.
Nikon has further engineered this all-around zoom lens to be both smaller and lighter —approximately 24.7 percent lighter and 18.4 percent shorter – than the company’s AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens.
The 24-70mm f/2.8 S is customizable to allow users greater control over the shooting experience. It is due out in Spring 2019 at a suggested retail price of $2,299.95.
Nikon has also released new details regarding upcoming firmware updates for the Nikon Z Mount System. The firmware in development includes new functions for the Z 7 and Z 6, such as Eye-Detection AF, RAW video output, and support for CFexpress memory cards. Additionally, the cameras’ AF/AE functions will be further improved, according to the company.
