Nokia Leads Latest Greenpeace Rankings; Nintendo Last
In its latest Guide to Greener Electronics, released this week, environmental group Greenpeace has once again ranked the top consumer electronics brands in terms of their Earth-friendliness, while lamenting that "very few firms are showing true climate leadership."
In the rankings, Nokia came out on top with a ranking of just under 7 (out of a possible 10); the Finnish telecom giant was trailed by Samsung, Toshiba and Sony Ericsson, all of whom ranking below 6. Coming in last place was Nintendo, with a 1, while Microsoft and Lenovo also ranked below 4.
"For several years now many electronics firms have put a great deal of emphasis on green claims," the group said as part of its release. "To be truly green, electronics companies must eliminate the worst toxics substance from their products, offer free global recycling, have the most efficient products and push for a low-carbon economy. No company has yet achieved clear leadership across the board."
