Nokia Sees the Silverlight
Nokia announced Tuesday that it would make support for Microsoft’s Silverlight plug-in available for their S60 smartphone platform. The cross-platform, cross-browser Silverlight currently powers Web-based offerings from NBC and the NBA.
Symbian smartphones are expected to have access to Silverlight later this year, with availability for Nokia Series 40 devices and Nokia Internet tablets to be confirmed later.
“This is an important relationship on so many levels. Working with Nokia means we are easily able to reach a huge number of mobile users, including customers of all S60 licensees. This is a significant step in gaining broad acceptance for Silverlight and ensuring it is platform agnostic,” said S. Somasegar, senior vice president of Microsoft’s developer division.
